Hello everyone, and welcome to the chat! My girlfriend is interested in joining my gaming sessions—she’d like to play a game on either our laptops. Since I’m not ready for a ranked match in Rainbow 6 Siege yet, I’m looking for suggestions with a gentle learning curve. She mentioned she’s only played Wii Sports, so I’m open to any calmer, more beginner-friendly titles. Any ideas?
For something offline and slower-paced, consider trying Cities: Skylines or Portal.
I'm guessing we're not sure what games she'll enjoy, but puzzle and adventure titles with strong storytelling seem like a solid starting point. Options like Portal/Portal 2, Firewatch, Gone Home, and Telltale's non-intense games could work well. These are more focused on narrative than mechanics, which might appeal to someone new to gaming. While they're less mainstream, casual players have found success with action games such as the latest Tomb Raider titles, Shadow of Mordor, Arkham series, etc. Remember, demos are still available for a few titles—Doom, Civ V, Resident Evil 7, and The Division offer free versions that let you try something new without cost. On Steam, look under the Games menu for a "Demos" section at the top.
Could be a bit fast at first, but it’s a great spot to head toward over time.
others recommended trying steam demos or free2play titles. when my brothers girlfriend moved in, she was in a similar situation... she mostly played a few wii games and some light ds titles like nintendogs. soon after, she started enjoying sims and stardew valley once my computer got fixed and upgraded. she then tried minecraft, warframe, and rocket league... now she seems to have become a dedicated gamer, using an rgb keyboard and even looking for co-op games with story elements like portal 2. it helps practice fps controls in teamwork mode. once she mastered the basics, try something more challenging and narrative-driven such as resident evil 5 or 6—fun in co-op but prone to mistakes due to tight timing.
That's a great thought, I'll take a closer look. The battlefield bad company series sounds really engaging. Reaching the next level as a gamer often comes from using an RGB keyboard.
