It takes a long time for the steam to load, and I haven't finished yet—it's been roughly 15 minutes, but Steam is moving very slowly.

Plan to use another drive for software by making folders for Program Files and Program Files (x86). Then adjust the drive letter to pick the installation location. This method is the most convenient and avoids complications during system recovery. Most programs let you select the install spot when prompted.

I managed to download most of what I needed, but I really don’t like when things don’t let you decide where they should go.

I haven't used Ninite personally. I'm not sure if it lets you pick your own files, and my last attempt didn't work. I favor downloading individual programs rather than using it. It's useful when you have just one drive for software, such as with large SSDs or older systems running a single HDD. That's also why I switched from Chrome to Opera.

Currently I use two HDDs, but soon I’ll upgrade to several HDDs along with a large SSD.

Set up your program and ensure your drivers are current. Think about using a fresh antivirus if you’re not confident with the built-in one.
