I've set up Linux on Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS because of issues with Windows, even older versions like Windows 7. After a full update and adding pop theme extensions to mimic Windows, I faced some hard disk problems. An engineer checked my PC and said the HDD was okay but pointed out minor PSU issues, suggesting a replacement. To simplify things, I decided to replace everything. Since installation was a few days ago, I've noticed the initramfs appears during boot, prompting me to run fsck manually. Once completed, it boots normally but is now running slowly. Could a faulty PSU be contributing to these slowdowns as well?

It might occur without clear cause. This could indicate issues with the hard drive itself, the filesystem, or even a power disruption affecting the power supply unit.

It powers off correctly, but during shutdown I can't start up. It displays a purple screen and forces a hard reboot every time it begins.

It seems like you're dealing with a driver or partition issue on your Ubuntu laptop. If a USB drive with a swap partition is connected, the purple screen during reboot suggests a boot-related problem. Review the logs or enable verbose booting to identify what's causing the freeze.

The "stuck in boot" issue might also happen when the network isn't setting up correctly. I encountered this on another laptop unless an Ethernet cable was connected; it would wait for the interface to appear. If this occurs, try waiting 3-5 minutes and see if it boots normally.

The cable might be stuck or damaged due to constant use.

You're asking for a clarification. I'm still learning, so please let me know what you mean by "newbie" and "pretty new." Can you give me more details? I want to make sure I explain it properly.

Follow the instructions in the post to view boot messages during startup. This helps identify issues causing failures or stalls.
