I've been watching the competition since 2012, but it now feels like a waste of money.

Aren't most games now focused on buying features during play?

Among all the discussions about Star Citizen I've encountered in these forums, this one stands out as the most basic and careless. I don’t back or have any interest in the game.

Not every case (like SWTOR) applies, yet most do. If you notice this, proceed with caution...

A scam involves receiving payment for something in exchange for nothing in return. Star Citizen offers pay-to-play features where you invest money for intangible digital items. If this sounds unfair, the freemium model (free base game with optional purchases) I experienced... Clash of Clans would require roughly $15,000 USD (around $12k in resources and $3k in time) to unlock a new account and reach the top. That’s a mobile title! If you’re against in-app purchases, avoid them. Developers rely on these transactions for ongoing revenue. You could manage it like a subscription, spending regularly for premium features without overspending on unnecessary digital content. Personally, I’d prefer buying one game only. I’m open to DLCs or microtransactions as long as they don’t restrict access after purchase and don’t lock players out of essential content. Free games with such models should have minimal restrictions, provided they don’t become restrictive once paid for.
