I've been checking this, and I'm curious—does it work independently, or should it connect with other UniFi equipment like the cloud gateway? Also, since your current switches have limited capacity, what are your thoughts on upgrading them?

It could function as an unmanaged switch without a controller (no testing done, limited information available). You might try using the app or install a controller on a system to configure the device.

You'll need a unified controller to set up the switch. There are several choices: 1) Self-hosted, 2) Cloud key, 3) Unifi's gateways, or 4) A hosted instance via Ubiquiti or another provider. If you don't use one, it will operate as a basic, unmodified switch. As far as I know, the controller doesn't require constant connectivity to make changes.

Don’t worry about setting anything up. I have a network with more than 1GB speed, but two of my PCs only have a 2.5GB router. It only has one 2.5GB port, and I only have a couple of 1GB switches available. I’d like to make the most of the extra bandwidth.

Did you receive it at all? I’m still on the same page and struggling to understand why it’s so inexpensive despite being from a well-known brand with better value.
