Stable overclock at 4.5ghz low voltage 5820k... Dynamic problems...
Hey team,
I encountered some problems with my overclock recently and didn’t realize the instability until a few days ago.
Today I finally adjusted her settings: 4.5ghz (45x100) @ 1.251v on FIXED OVERCLOCK.
This setup works perfectly with an MSI X99-a Sli plus mobo.
After running Asus Realbench, everything is stable.
My issues pop up when I try to switch her into Dynamic mode...
I can’t even reach 4.5ghz or get close; even at 1.3v it doesn’t go past 4ghz.
I’ve used the OC Genie from my mobo, which automatically brings her down to 3.8ghz without any problems.
Anyone has suggestions on why I can’t enter Dynamic but still get a stable, solid overclock?
I’m struggling with this and can’t find a solution, but I’m really impressed with my 4.5ghz at that voltage—especially under constant load.
Are there many challenges with fixed overclocks, or are they really problematic?
Thanks a lot, I’d appreciate your quick response so I can resolve this. 😀
I have the same chip operating at 4.5ghz on 1.3 volts (any lower voltage causes instability for me, you're lucky).
I'm using a different motherboard, but I can confirm it will crash immediately as well with dynamic (I had to reboot just to test this, since I've never tried dynamic before).
I believe running it at fixed overclock isn't an issue, as I've been testing these settings for months now.
You didn't mention your temperatures, which is important to monitor closely during overclocking.
I'm using the same chip at 4.5ghz on 1.3 volts (lower voltages make it unstable for me, lucky I have one).
My motherboard is different, but I'm sure it will fail right away with dynamic overclocking as well—just had to restart after testing.
I believe it's okay to keep running it at fixed overclock; I've been doing this for months with these settings.
You didn't mention your temperatures, which is important to watch closely when overclocking.
Sorry I was in a game... my temps are around 45°C at full load (thanks to fixed overclock).
My GPU stays under 55°C even at maximum load.
I know those numbers are fine (others say 100% should hit 70°C or more, but mine stays steady in the low to mid 40s).
The only issue I see is that it might reduce CPU lifespan, but if it lasts two years, it's probably okay.

I have the exact same chip running at 4.5ghz on 1.3 volts (any lower voltage is instable for me, you are lucky).
I have a different motherboard though but i can confirm that mine will crash out immediately as well with with dynamic (yes i had to reboot to test this to see because ive never tried dynamic until now)
I will say that i think there is no problem with running it at fixed overclock (im just saying that because ive ran mine for months now with these settings in my signature below)
You didnt list your temperatures though which is always something to keep a close eye on when overclocking
Hey sorry was in a game.. My temps are ~45c at 100% load (Because of the Fixed Overclock).
My GPU doesn't really go past 55'c at max load either.
I know those temps are fine (others say that 100% load should be around 70c or higher, but mines at a constant low-mid 40's.
Is that decent enough? The only thing I see wrong with the full load constantly is it could shorten the length of the CPU but if it still lasts 2 years idrc.
As we like to call that around here, you have won the silicon lottery.
That is one awesome chip staying below 45c at 4.5ghz (you should feel very happy)
That is beyond decent, that is pretty good right there my man
P.S. Mine will surpass 65c easily under full load with an h110i gt.

I’m using the same chip at 4.5ghz on 1.3 volts – anything lower makes it unstable for me, you’re lucky. My motherboard is different, but I’m sure it will crash too if I try dynamic mode. I’ll admit I’ve been running it with fixed overclock for months now, just to confirm my point.
I didn’t mention your temperatures, which is important when overclocking. Sorry, I was in a game earlier and my temps were around 45°C at full load (thanks to fixed overclock). My GPU stays under 55°C max, which is also fine.
I understand those temps are normal – others say 100% load should hit around 70°C or more, but mine stays in the low 40s. That seems okay. The only concern is whether it might affect the CPU lifespan, but if it lasts two years, that’s great.
In our community we call this a lucky silicon draw – you’ve got a chip that stays cool at 45°C with these settings.
That’s really impressive, one of those great chips staying under 45°C at 4.5ghz. You’re doing well, man.
P.S. With an H110i GT I’ll easily hit 65°C under full load.
Thanks for the advice! I think I’ll keep these settings for a while.
Appreciate it!

Damn lol, yeah my chip has been pretty nice so far... I almost blew it up when I had a Predator 360 cooler that wasn't working.. Prime95 put it into the 90's until I realized what the problem was... (maybe this broke her in real nice) lmfaoo.
-- Now I'm sitting pretty with a NZXT Kraken x61 which seems to be doing its job really well.
Thanks for your input! Looks like I'll be running at these specs for a while
I appreciate it!
Yeah people would die to be that lucky with a chip like that, im impressed with this one.
You could easily push for even higher with temps that low (just please be careful with the voltage at all costs, personally speaking mine will never go above 1.3 for 24/7 use)
