Stability problems with power limits in Intel 14900KF processor
I know the Intel 14th have some stability issues, especially when unlocking the power limits, however, I come here to seek some guidance I couldn't find elsewhere. Short story, I upgraded from my old 12700KF to a used 14900KF on the same hardware, just because it was an easy upgrade on the platform more than anything, and a friend got my used 12700KF. The old 12700KF ran fine with just the limits removed and 2+ turbo added, but this 14900KF crash Cinebench R23.2 with an error when I try to do the same. CPU Load-line cal is set to level 4. I tried to go higher but no effect that I could tell. RAM has XMP enabled to Profile 1. I've tried to play around with the limits manually, and here is where I'm at: CPU Core/Cache Current Limit Max: As soon as I try to raise this, it will become unstable in Cinebench Long Duration Package Power Limit (PL1): Set to 4095 and stable Short Duration Package Power Limit (PL2): Set to 4095 and stable Package Power Time Window: Set to 448 but defaults at 256 as I remember I haven't touched any other setting in the BIOS (that I know of), just XMP and the power limits, everything else in on Auto/Default. Is there anything you would recommend me trying to change in the BIOS? Cinebench R32.2 score: 36831 Been stable in games with this "overclock" too for some time. CPU Temps. at max peak 95c, closer to 85-90 for most of the 10 min Cinebenck run. System: MB: ROG STRIX Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4 CPU: Intel 14900KF + Contact frame RAM: G.SKILL DDR4 4400MHz C19 2x16Gb GPU: RTX4090 (from Gigabyte I believe, I have a waterblock on it now) PSU: Asus ROG Thor 1200W Cooling: Custom EK watercooling on CPU and GPU with 2x360 rads
First if all, this is just a minor inconvineance, if nothing can be done that is no dealbreaker.

I haven't checked your system directly, but I can confirm if you've installed a BIOS update addressing the 14th generation power problems.
Check compatibility first, then proceed with an update and avoid minor adjustments. Make sure the device runs in stock mode before starting.
Operates smoothly in stock configurations and even under the slight power constraints mentioned, but performance drops significantly when all restrictions are lifted. In fixed configurations I achieve approximately 35,000 in Cinebench, whereas removing limitations brings results near 37,000. Based on current observations, around 40,000 should be attainable with full limits and adequate cooling.
Seems low indeed, you should rather be close to 40k, unless new/"safe" BIOS gimped the chip pretty hard My 7950X3D at stock scores 35k with 160W PPT and below 85C....
I considered purchasing a used 14900KF several times, and I’m sure you managed to get it at a good price.
