I aimed to enhance my existing 120 GB SATA SSD with an NVMe 500 GB drive. I'm uncertain about the best options and their value for the cost. My current configuration includes: CPU - Ryzen 3 2200G, GPU - GeForce GTX 1650, Motherboard - A320 S2H, RAM - 16 GB (8x2), HDD - 1 TB & 320 GB SSD, Cabinet - Antec DF500 RGB Mid Tower, SMPS - CoolerMaster 450W, Monitor - LG UltraGear. I searched Amazon in India for NVMe SSDs and found several choices. Offline shops list higher prices, so I’m unsure if the Samsung 970 EVO Plus is worth it given my needs. The read/write speed differences are noticeable, but I’m not sure if they’re necessary for my setup. Could you recommend the top picks?
A SATA SSD works just fine either. However, if you're comparing prices per gigabyte, you're unsure about how long they'll last. Samsung seems more reliable based on their ratings. With lower-end NVMe drives, you might not achieve the speed you expect.
These are the performance figures for WD and 970 EVO plus WD Blue SN550 500GB NVMe SSD. It reads at 2400MB/s and writes at 1750MB/s. Samsung 970 EVO PLUS offers sequential speeds reaching up to 3500/3300 MB/s.
If you're avoiding any important information that you don't need to keep, I recommend choosing the WD drive. I generally prefer Samsung for reliability but haven't tested a WD SSD yet. In terms of warranty duration, both brands are similar. Since they're both trustworthy companies, opting for WD could save you money.
