SSD, PSU or Cooler?
SSD, PSU or Cooler?
Hello, welcome back. I just sold my Xbox 360 for around 300 dollars and decided it was time to upgrade. But first, what upgrades should I consider?
I plan to get an ATX case, the Sentey GS-6008, which would cost about 220 dollars. What should I do next?
Options include:
- SSD 120GB for operating system and some games
- SSD 240GB for operating system and more games
- PSU for CPU overclocking up to 4.0Ghz
- Cooler and PSU for CPU overclocking up to 4.3Ghz
- SSD 120GB and PSU
- Cooler and PSU
The best setup for me would be a case with a 240GB SSD, the PSU, and a cooler. This should keep me from needing further PC upgrades for at least two years. Any advice? Thanks!
I’m not able to overclock my CPU beyond 3.8 because the screen freezes randomly, even when under full load for an hour. It doesn’t crash during browsing, but it freezes when stressing it.
Good GPU. I’m not really familiar with that PSU—it seems like it’s not worth it. For now, I’d prioritize getting a reliable PSU and a solid SSD. I’d wait for something with at least 240GB capacity (120GB is too simple). If you’re using the built-in CPU cooler, a decent one like the CM 212 or better is crucial for effective overclocking. But make sure to invest in a good PSU first—it’s essential for the computer’s health.
In my opinion, this 240 GB SSD offers significant performance gains right away. The 120 GB version is too limited, and 240 provides a smooth experience.
According to your profile details, the APU utilizes its graphics. If this is mainly for gaming, you would achieve better performance with a solid discrete card. Depending on your PSU (not specified), you might need an upgrade to support a good card. An SSD enhances boot times and level-loading, but from a gaming standpoint, a higher resolution monitor and a capable GPU would be ideal.
I purchased a 750ti MSI and enhanced its performance by boosting the clock speed beyond 250 and increasing memory capacity past 500, while using a standard 500-watt KelyX power supply.

I have the ability to purchase everything listed—240GB Kingston SSD, 800W Kanji PSU, Case Sentey GS-6080, and Cooler 212 EVO. Thanks for the old Xbox 360...
