We recently purchased an NVMe drive for my partner's computer. After installation, it wouldn't boot and displayed the error "Reboot and select proper boot device." I discovered one of her original two SATA SSDs was missing from the BIOS after removing the drive. The PC now boots normally when the PC is turned off. Could anyone suggest a solution? I'll include the specifications below. Motherboard: ASUS Strix B450-f CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 RAM: 16GB SATA SSDs: Crucial MX500 500GB, NMVE-Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB. Edited September 12, 2023 by TimeToCrash. Missed spec.

Check the manual for details about the second m.2 slot and its connections. Identify the ports that overlap with SATA slots, then move the 2.5" drive to an available one.

The devices in the red square are disabled on my B550 when a second M.2 is connected.

Occasionally B450 boards receive NVMe drives, but results vary widely. I struggled to get a Samsung 980 to function on my Gigabybte B450 board, despite trying BIOS updates and clearing everything else. A PC upgrade might be the solution, and it could also earn you some appreciation.

Yep, it was exactly this. The moment I hit send on the message, I said to my girlfriend "watch it be me trying to use too many devices on the same set of lanes" Thank you, it's been a long day and my brain didn't want to brain, after an hour of stressing and freaking out thinking I'd broken one of her drives, thank you!

It's usually the most basic idea you missed.
