Hello, I reached this point only as a fallback. I’m completely unsure what’s happening. One of my disks is extremely slow and I don’t understand why. When trying to access it, I notice it’s sluggish—like it needs to start up before I can use it.

My system specs are: AMD Ryzen 5 3600, Gigabyte B550M DS3H motherboard (BIOS F1), 64GB DDR4 RAM, Crucial Bx500 2TB SSD firmware M6CR061, Crucial MX500 500GB NVMe drive, WD Spinning drive. Running Windows 11 64-bit 22H2.

I’ve tried several things: turning the disk off and on, ensuring it doesn’t go to sleep, leaving the computer in BIOS for 6-8 hours as per the manual, updating firmware, changing the SATA cable, moving the port where it’s plugged in, making sure TRIM is enabled. I also ran read/write tests using Crystal and found the performance was inconsistent and low.

There are some screenshots from a self-test on Storage Executive that suggest the drive is still functional. However, the S.M.A.R.T. data doesn’t give clear answers. I’ve even recorded a video (Recording 2024-10-02 184348.mp4) showing the issue.

No event logs indicate a disk failure. It seems like this drive might be faulty or just not performing well. Any advice would be really helpful—I’m hoping it’s just a bad component.

The SMART values appear to be acceptable. Consider relocating some components to another storage device and performing a TRIM operation. How long has this been occurring? Was it triggered by an event such as a Windows update? Has BitLocker been mistakenly activated? If you have an additional computer with the drive not used for your operating system, you can diagnose the issue by transferring the drive and testing it there.

It's currently 82% full, and it's been this way for a while now. I checked recently and confirmed it hasn't changed. I don't have another device to test it on.

Start by clearing some space and run a TRIM operation to check if that improves things. It’s not overly full, but worth a shot. You might want to ask a friend for assistance. Bring your SSD to them to test and compare performance. If it functions well there, the issue could be elsewhere—possibly related to the motherboard or Windows settings.
