Hello, I'm working on restoring my Lenovo Legion 5 17 after taking it apart. While reapplying thermal paste, I'm noticing high temperatures and burn marks forming on the surface. I suspect these are trapped air bubbles. I've tried spreading the paste multiple times and applying small dots, but the results remain the same. The paste I'm using is Thermal Grizzly Aeronaut. Later today I'll be able to purchase PTM material, which could be useful now. Any tips would be greatly appreciated at this stage.

avoid scorching marks, focus on elevated areas of the central die and cooler.

They appear as dark marks that leave behind a sticky film.

TPM pads on the CPU and GPU made a difference. Temperatures stayed steady around 65°C for the 2060, and between 70-85°C for the CPU. I'll keep an eye on it for any issues, but it appears to have resolved the problem.

It shouldn't be feasible for the CPU heat spreader or heat sink to reach temperatures that cause burn marks, especially without damaging the socket or surrounding materials. This suggests a possible electric arc between the heat sink and the CPU. I'm very worried about safety and would advise stopping use immediately. The best course of action is to take the device to a repair shop for a thorough inspection. This situation isn't typical from static electricity but rather from power issues affecting the heat sink and CPU connection. Good luck with the repair!
