Download ThrottleStop, access the Limit Reasons window and check if BD PROCHOT appears red. This indicates a typical throttling issue on some newer Asus motherboards. If it shows red, clear the BD PROCHOT box on the main screen of ThrottleStop. Apply stress to your CPU. If it reaches full capacity, the problem is likely a failed sensor on your board. The board may need replacement or you’ll have to use ThrottleStop. This is the only method to bypass these external throttling signals. Ensure you’re using the latest BIOS—this issue might have been resolved recently.
I accessed the ThrottleStop but didn’t see red alerts. Below the three main settings—GPU and ring—I don’t notice any messages. My processor speed has risen and performance feels much better now compared to before. When I ran Prime95 for testing, it ran smoothly without being stuck at 800MHz. It seems a new motherboard might be worth considering.
If you skip ThrottleStop, your speed stays at 0.78ghz and 800mhz. When you enable it, your speed increases to 3.70 or higher. I checked reviews for the ASUS ROG Maximus XII Hero and noticed someone mentioned a similar 800mhz issue from a factory defect. I’ve updated my BIOS, adjusted power settings, but the problem persists. I’ll share some photos of my BIOS if you’d like.
If ThrottleStop works for you, I’d like to review some screenshots of ThrottleStop to help identify the issue. Several BIOS settings are configured as AUTO—there’s no way to confirm if any specific setting is active or inactive. Have you turned off BD PROCHOT to improve CPU performance? When BD PROCHOT is enabled, does your CPU operate at its maximum speed?
My BIOS settings remain consistent unless I enable XMP for RAM. When BD PROCHOT is off, the processor operates at around 5.0GHz. Activating it causes it to freeze at approximately 0.78GHz.
I overlooked that ThrottleStop 9.2 doesn’t list any Limit Reasons for the 10th Gen Comet Lake CPUs. In the latest BIOS screenshot from the Advanced tab, near the bottom, there’s a BIOS setting named Thermal Monitor. Some users have managed to resolve the throttling by turning it off. Try disabling it, restart, and check the Task Manager speed report. It would be great to find a solution without extra software.
That thermal monitor feature works well, and reaching nearly 5.00GHz is impressive. Just don’t worry about your PC exploding—those specs are manageable!
