hello i just upgraded my ram from one 16GB stick to two 8GB sticks with 3200mhz. when i run the cmd command wmic memorychip get speed, it shows both sticks are only 2400mhz. i tried enabling xmp, but lenovo blocked it in bios. i’m wondering if there’s another way to adjust the speed. i have an amd 5 3600 cpu with a 1660 super and my ram is kingston fury 16gb (2x8gb) ddr4 3600mhz cl17 beast rgb. pls help me—i’ve already spent 550 dollars on new parts, so i don’t want to waste more money on a new motherboard.
You'd probably need to replace the motherboard. It's frustrating when pre-built items do this, and big companies seem to intentionally cause issues without a good reason.
Join the fun. Dell also handled my laptop in the same way, using a 3200 MTs kit with a CPU that can reach that speed without XMP, but it’s capped at 2666. The issue is even worse—the version with the dGPU gets the full 3200 MT boost, while the Iris XE models get much more from RAM speed compared to the weaker MX350 they offer. Probably Dell just didn’t want the Iris XE graphics to outperform their Nvidia MX350 in higher-end models. There’s no real technical justification for this. I bought it at a huge discount, so I’m not overly upset, but the lack of performance is still concerning.
