During the pandemic and remote work, I brought my office PC because it performs better than my laptop. Because it’s not close to the mesh Wi-Fi, I switched networks and achieved better results. I kept my phone in the same location and ran a speed test app. My connection shows 100 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload. Without the USB cable, I receive nearly the same speed. When I connected the USB cable to my Galaxy S8, the speed fell to around 50 Mbps download and 22 Mbps upload. Oddly, the PC wasn’t connected at all. I opted to skip the PC test and ran the speed check alone with my phone still nearby. My work involves heavy data transfers—uploading tutorial videos to YouTube. I nearly reached the full 1 TB on my OneDrive account. I use a spare Galaxy S8 as a USB tether to maintain WiFi access. Recently, I noticed the speed dropping more noticeably. My usage demands lots of data uploads and downloads. I’m trying to balance performance with stability. Could a dedicated WiFi adapter help? Or is the USB cable defective? There seems to be a difference between USB 2 and 3 ports, especially since the 3 port is now unstable. My PC specs are: Intel i5-3600, 3600 MHz, 6 GB RAM, GTX 780, 2 TB SSD.
