So DoTA2 got a pretty substantial update, remaking the whole level editor. It's a fresh redesign currently only available for DoTA 2 but of course, more games will be supported in the future. What's more interesting though, this could be the first hint at an imminent Source engine update: either Source 1 gets a big redesign or Source 2 is ready to see the light of day, and the latter is of course the more plausible one. Ok so one guy attended the Steam Dev Days and this is his response: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php...tcount=122 Links: http://www.valvetime.net/threads/dota-2-...14.245390/ Polygon did a thing: http://www.polygon.com/2014/8/7/5978029/...ine-launch So did Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/whats-all-this-source-...1617550121 Link to Valve's developer wiki: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki...r_Overview Personally I don't play DoTA 2, but I do think (as a mapper for TF2) that this is a much needed improvement over what we currently have. That old stuff is old (duh) and very outdated. It also likes to crash a lot. Edit: lots of good stuff: http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/2...a_modding/ More to come as we go along. I believe the headline leaps to certain statements that may not hold up in reality.
Who doesn't do that. Besides, there is a lot of evidence saying it is true. Valve is being sneaky here.
If it holds then it's fine, but if they haven't labeled it as Source 2 yet, I won't
This version is acceptable. Are you asking if it meets your needs?
Is Source 2 a brand-new engine built from scratch, or is it simply a significant overhaul of the current Source engine? I'm curious since the original Source engine traces its origins back to the Quake engine in 1996.
It’s expected to be a fresh engine, yet it might still contain remnants of older Source code. Leveraging elements from Source 1.0 could be beneficial. There are many components in that engine that remain current and even offer features not available in today’s versions, such as real-time reflections that other engines find difficult to replicate without noticeable performance drops.
