Valve maintains tight control over the information surrounding the engine. Any insights you can share would be valuable.

You can get it for Dota 2 already. It doesn't significantly change the game in Dota 2.

It's just an updated version of the original engine. I'm excited about it. It should also run smoothly on older systems.

The only information I've received is a partial leak from a tour group several months prior who captured an image of a development screen featuring Source 2 and potentially L4D3.

Are you asking about the workshop tools for Dota 2? Just to clarify, source 2 doesn’t currently impact Dota 2.

We lack information about it since no game was released using it. It was only briefly referenced a few times during Steam Dev Days without detailed discussion. What we know is that the development tools have become more intuitive. The person behind Counter-Strike, Minh Le, who reviewed it, compared it to Unreal Engine 4.

I believed it was only the workshop that received source 2, not the full game. It's said the real game will move to source 2 by early 2015.

They posted an update on their blog about it at DOTA2.com. Buying a new PC and thinking about changes, but it seems like everything should be okay.
