Sound quality changes depending on the game.
I've upgraded my Gigabyte B550M motherboard recently and installed a new CPU and GPU. I've experienced some audio problems in various games, though I'm unsure about their cause. In F1 22, the audio crackling would appear before races but disappear once the game started, so I initially ignored it. Recently, while playing Portal 2, the crackling persisted during both gameplay and menu navigation, leading me to switch from my front audio jack to the rear one. I suspect the HD audio cable might not be connected correctly or there could be interference, though this issue still occurs occasionally in other games. Anyone have suggestions for troubleshooting? Thanks. (Note: This problem doesn't happen on desktop; I'm using Windows 11.)
Based on what I found in other discussions, the problem seems to come from how Windows communicates with the card. The fix was updating to an older driver, which wasn’t perfect but might resolve the issue. After installing the new driver, you should periodically verify if the problem persists. There are likely several drivers available for this card, even though it’s still relatively new.
Sure thing! Just to clarify, I actually resolved the issue on my end. I used the Windows audio troubleshooter, which indicated that my audio output wasn't at the highest quality setting (it was set to 48000Hz). I changed it to the maximum (192000Hz), and the problem seemed to improve. Thanks for the help!
Even a 48,000 should not cause issues, but this deal really helped fix it. Strange things can happen during updates. (I wasn’t even aware the bit rate could drop to 48,000 anymore) Still, it makes sense that an update might have adjusted the HZ rate since Windows lowered it to the default level.
