Here’s a rewritten version of the text, aiming for clarity and flow while retaining the original details:

I'm experiencing an intermittent audio problem with my PS4 controller when connected to my PC via USB. I use the audio jack on the controller to connect my headset, but occasionally the sound cuts out entirely. The only way to restore it is to manually adjust the volume slider on my PC – moving it in any direction will temporarily bring the sound back. This happens repeatedly during gameplay and is incredibly frustrating because I can’t find a permanent solution online. I've checked the volume mixer, and even though the game audio is present, the headset isn't muted. The issue seems specific to games like Assassin’s Creed IV and Rogue; YouTube videos play without problems. The cable connecting my headset is too short to connect directly to the PC.

I’ve tried troubleshooting, but haven't found a fix. It’s as if vibration from the controller triggers a sound loss. I recently discovered that using a different version of DS4Windows resolves this bug – the vibration feature seems to be the culprit.

I'm not sure how well the audio passthrough on the DS4 is supported on Windows. My suspicion is the audio is being interrupted because windows thinks there's no controller input (incorrectly) and dropping the audio signal until you do something to refresh it.

That’s a really thorough explanation, thanks for detailing everything! It seems like there could be some interference between DS4Windows and your audio output settings within Steam or Big Picture mode. Let’s try focusing on a few key areas to troubleshoot this:

1. **Audio Output Priority:** Ensure that Steam/Big Picture mode is set as the *primary* audio output device in your operating system's sound settings. Sometimes, other applications can override this setting.
2. **DS4Windows Settings - Audio Device:** Double-check within DS4Windows itself if there are any specific audio device settings you might have inadvertently changed. It’s possible a setting is conflicting with Steam’s control. Try resetting the audio device to default in DS4Windows.
3. **Steam Big Picture Mode Specifics:** You've correctly identified that Steam Big Picture mode can be problematic. Ensure that within Steam, the controller setup for your DS4Windows controller is properly configured *before* launching into Big Picture mode. This will help ensure a consistent audio connection.
4. **Driver Updates**: Make sure you have the latest drivers installed for both your sound card and the DS4Windows software itself.

To help me narrow down the problem further, could you tell me:

* Which operating system are you using (Windows 10/11 version)?
* What audio output device are you currently using (e.g., built-in speakers, headphones connected via USB)?
* Can you confirm that sound works correctly when playing games *outside* of Steam or Big Picture mode?
