Experienced a strong storm yesterday that knocked out my power for most of the day. Nbd, everything was fixed and electricity came back. Today I planned a quick game before work, but when I pressed the power button on my PC, I heard a strange zapping noise inside. Opening the case revealed a faint smell of burning. The motherboard lights are still working, yet the computer won’t start. I haven’t taken it apart yet, but I’m checking forums for possible causes—clearly something needs replacing.
Turn it off completely by unplugging it. Avoid forcing it to activate. Once done, you can insert your nose and take a sniff as suggested by @tkitch
