Sound like the fan is hitting its highest possible speed, but the readout doesn’t show any RPM increase.
Hey there, I've been working with PCs for about 20 years now. This one's been giving me headaches lately. I'm on a tight budget, so I got an old card from a friend and upgraded my machine. It worked fine for a few months, but then I tried MSI after burner to test performance in games. River Tuner spotted a bug—it messed with my GPU's power management, making it jump between 0% and 100% randomly. Still no solution.
I did a fresh driver install using a tool; Task Manager showed normal GPU usage, so I didn’t push it too hard. Then something changed after waking up or restarting—fans on the GPU started spiking briefly, then stopped. After a Windows update and another restart, fans went back to normal after a few minutes.
Now, when I power off and come back on, the fans ramp up again, sometimes for a while. I noticed this usually happens when the GPU temperature is below 30°C, but I don’t know why it keeps happening. I did some research and found a reset BIOS option. I removed the BIOS battery, reinstalled it, updated drivers, and adjusted fan settings in BIOS. In Radeon software, I saw the GPU RPMs weren’t showing properly when it ramped up. After changing the fan curve to 775 RPM, it seemed correct.
It looks like the sensors were detecting the fans running too fast. I thought my temps were fine, but maybe heating things up a bit helped. If you have any tips or solutions, please share—I’ll give it another shot and let you know how it goes. Thanks for your help!
