I recently attempted to refresh my BIOS settings on a MSI B450M Mortar (non-max) motherboard to ensure compatibility with a Ryzen 5 3600x. However, the process caused several issues: upon shutdown, the system would fail to power back up until I swapped the CPU back to its original model or it completely refused to boot, displaying various errors related to the CPU, VGA, or DRAM. I suspect the problem was with the BIOS itself, but I also overlooked updating the AMD chipset driver, which likely contributed. After fixing the driver, I gave up and reinstalled the old CPU. Unfortunately, the previous one stopped working too—my display port didn’t function, thinking it was due to a faulty cable or monitor. In reality, the cables and monitor were fine, but the GPU display port wasn’t working. HDMI worked, so I booted the system; Windows attempted recovery, possibly because I reset the PC multiple times. It turned out not only the display port failed, but also several audio ports on the motherboard. The sole working audio source was a small USB DAC. I tried everything: reinstalled the latest drivers from AMD, MSI, REALTEK AUDIO, and even updated the monitor driver. Windows was updated to version 10, yet nothing resolved the issue. I considered installing the newest BIOS for the B450M from MSI or searching for an older one, but if that fails, what should I do? There’s no way I damaged anything—my BIOS was from 2019, chosen specifically to support the new CPU at that time. The previous driver (2022) wasn’t compatible because it wouldn’t boot or restart properly.
