Hello everyone, I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Book (i5-1135g7). I notice a slight electrical buzzing sound, similar to Morse code, only when the device is idle. When it's running, the noise disappears. I'm unsure if it comes from the SSD or the CPU. I read online about C-states and CPU noise, and it seems some CPUs can produce sound even when the PC is off. Could this be a sign of a problem? Just to clarify, my laptop is still under warranty.

SSDs are solid-state drives, which means they lack moving components, resulting in minimal noise. This is likely the topic you're reading about when discussing CPUs in C-state.

Could this be a clue that your laptop isn't working properly?

Not faulty. The issue seems to be coil whine, which doesn't harm the device and isn't always included in the warranty.

I believe there might be a problem with the coil whine. Does the sound resemble what you're experiencing?

No, the sound isn't sharp. It sounds more like a buzzing noise. I notice it only when the computer isn't running. The noise goes away when I'm using the laptop. It's similar to this, just a bit louder.

It's just the coil whine coming from an inductor on the PCB. The maker likely won't assist you here since this isn't a manufacturing flaw.

Thank you. This doesn't seem to mean my laptop is broken.

I haven't had the chance to try a Kingston A400 before.
