I bought a Predator two months back and keep getting strange messages about how the battery isn't charging to 80%, but instead keeps going all the way up to 100% sometimes even though I said it's set to stop at that level. It happens really seldom, maybe just once a month. Is this regular?

You'd better ask the maker for details. Some gadgets get charged up to full capacity so their system knows how to adjust properly. If you don't test out the hundred, how does it know what eighty is?
