Previously, I structured and half of my files remained; there was a Windows key and the command line was active.

When half your files remained, it means you didn't format the drive. (or they were stored elsewhere)

They might have configured group policies to deploy specific apps or transmit certain telemetry data. This is essentially switching your activation server. If you relied on this one, the mentioned threat should no longer apply. I’ve worked with that KMS server before and found it reliable, though you can revert all group policies if you remain cautious. Make sure Windows Defender is turned on—it blocks around 99.9% of suspicious batch scripts and other malware/backdoors, especially for prebuilt or OEM systems. You may already have permission to activate automatically when it collects your BIOS information. If your system still uses an older Windows 7/8 key, consider upgrading to Windows 10 for a more affordable license.

Proof? There's big difference in using evaluation copy which Microsoft has chosen not to lock and using KMS to activate Enterprise version when you aren't working for said enterprise.
