I set up ChromeOS Flex on an unusual laptop with a small HDD and eMMC storage. I also installed Linux Mint Debian Edition 5 on a Samsung SD card, but the GPT boot key only shows the internal drive, so only Chrome OS boots. I’m curious if anyone has tried adding a bootloader menu option in ChromeOS Flex’s grub2.cfg to enable dual booting. P.S. Linux Mint Debian runs smoothly here, though ChromeOS Flex has some issues like a missing mouse and occasional freezes—still a decent experience overall.

I’m checking bwin for a mainland Chinese producer of SATA, PCIe, and M.2 cards. They also seem to manufacture watches, though that’s not mentioned elsewhere. No laptop references found except with their M.2 products. What model are you referring to? Edited June 20, 2022 by Bombastinator

This device features its own unique design. On Linux motherboards, it displays SC 402 or similar. It’s clearly an unusual adapter. The ad I’m referring to is from the company https://leader-online.com.au/product/lea...t-edition/. I also shared a video showing it running Chrome OS Flex instead of the original Windows 10 S, which turned blue when you powered on the built-in Wi-Fi. Linux should work fine; I tested it with Linux Mint LMDE 5 before trying Chrome OS Flex.

It's version 402, distinct from the Minecraft game version.

It appears to be a netbook with an Intel Celeron J4105 processor at 4 cores and up to 2 GB cache, running around 50 GHz. It should theoretically support standard Windows 10, though performance may be limited. You might be able to boot into BIOS. The SD card slot isn’t listed in the boot order options.

Frequent Windows 10 issues led to repeated crashes while trying to activate built-in Wi-Fi. The system frequently failed to connect, especially when attempting to access the internet through the default network. Updates also caused instability, often opening the Microsoft Store unexpectedly. It seems the Minecraft version is available, but connectivity remains problematic due to Wi-Fi limitations—only 1-3 feet from the access point works reliably. Adding an NVMe drive might help, though I don’t have one for testing. Formatting the SD card with a boot parameter (legacy boot, boot, ESP) could work, but it’s prone to errors. Using BIOS/UEFI to boot from it is recommended, though it may be unstable. Chrome OS Flex and Linux Mint Debian Edition 5 both function, albeit with some restrictions: Chrome OS Flex needs a USB Wi-Fi adapter and becomes sluggish, while Linux Mint Debian Edition 5 supports built-in Wi-Fi but with a very limited range (1-3 feet) and slow browsing due to a swap partition. MineTest, TuxCart, and Penguin Lemmings run smoothly on the latter.

This narrow range suggests an issue with the antenna.
