Some ROG Crosshair 8 Extreme M.2 drives are missing from the system.
I received an Asus ROG Crosshair 8 Extreme X570 motherboard paired with a Ryzen 9 5950 and 3 M.2 drives installed directly on the board. My 256 GB Samsung 970 Pro is in the M.2_1 slot, visible to the motherboard, and I managed to install Windows 10 there. In M.2_2 and M.2_3 I have two 2TB Samsung 970 Pros that aren’t shown in the BIOS or Disk manager, nor were they detected by the Windows 10 installer when it asked for a boot drive location. I’m confused about their absence and, after trying to re-seat them, I don’t know what else to check since this is my first experience with M.2 drives.
Ensure RAID is disabled in the BIOS settings. Additionally, attempt to disable CSM within the BIOS configuration.
Reorganized the drives without any results and turning off CSM triggers a compatibility issue with the video card, causing the motherboard to restart CSM. All RAID-related information has been turned off again, and it’s unclear if this indicates an RMA problem with the motherboard.
They should have resolved the issue. Consider updating the BIOS. If that doesn’t help, you might need to return the drives or the board. Test the first drive in other slots—if it works, return the drives; if not, return the board.
I had a suggestion that seemed to work. The motherboard came with a daughter board that supports two additional M.2 drives. After inserting them, both were detected by the BIOS and Windows allowed formatting. Still, when I reinserted the drives into the slots, nothing appeared except what led me to suspect a PCIe lane problem. I plan to check the firmware update and reach out to Asus since I feel the board might be less capable than I thought. Thanks for your assistance so far.
