Realised my 5600x isn’t performing well on Cinebench and decided to investigate further. Temperature seems fine, and I’ve tested every PBO setting—offset, auto, etc.—without success. My scores remain low despite Hwinfo showing 4.6ghz per core, with actual speeds around 4.2ghz. If I manually overclock to 4.8 while keeping voltage on auto (~1.4v), the effective speed stays at 4.8ghz. The main concern is avoiding constant locking at that high frequency. Any suggestions?
I discovered a useful trick for my 5900X by configuring a positive VID offset. With PBO you encounter clock stretching—a situation where the system voltage is lower than expected, causing a brief slowdown without software notification. This can be seen in HWiNFO64's effective clock reading, but don't depend on it. Clock stretching appears only with boost algorithms; locking the frequency prevents it, which explains why the effective clock remained steady at 4.8GHz once locked. Add just a small amount—around +0.02 to +0.05 should suffice—to stop the chip from stretching much. It also tends to reach a sweet spot quickly, so keep increasing until you see no further gains or temperatures rise too high. Also, check your board and BIOS version; some updates can break PBO, memory support, and other features, so testing a different BIOS might help.
