A few days back I swapped out my motherboard and CPU since my previous components were no longer sufficient for my needs. This was my first attempt at such a change, but I’m not sure if I damaged anything. The computer started up normally and everything seemed okay. The issue emerged later, following a Windows update and installation of new motherboard drivers. Some parts of my screen now freeze intermittently, mostly in Chrome or Discord. Even though the exact area freezes, I can still move my mouse over it and interact with it as if nothing was wrong. Pressing Alt+Tab out of an app seems to temporarily resolve the problem. Additionally, the freezing doesn’t occur during games, and it seems to get worse when a background application is running. Another observation is that taking screenshots always shows normal results, suggesting the issue isn’t visible in the image. I’ve tried reinstalling Windows, graphics drivers, and other settings, but nothing has fixed it. I’ve also attached a video of what’s happening.
Hello there! I recently updated my motherboard and CPU since my previous components were no longer sufficient for my needs.
Create a bootable USB installer for your operating system, then install it in offline mode;

While offline, install all required drivers for your system, then connect to the internet and allow the OS to apply updates.
Could you let me know the BIOS version of your motherboard? Just a note, you might want to consider a Z690 chipset board to match your unlocked i5 processor.
I recall trying to find a board with the z690 chipset, but it seems there are no more suitable options available in stock these days, so I opted for this alternative instead. Regarding the Z690, it supports overclocking, though I’m not keen on doing it because I’d be nervous about handling it.
In my BIOS version section in msinfo32, it shows the BIOS version as 10/15/2024. I believe there’s a newer release about two weeks ago, but the update logs don’t indicate significant changes, and I’m not entirely sure.
Also, are there any other steps I could take before a full system reinstall? Those would take a lot of time, and I’d really prefer to avoid doing it again unless necessary. Thanks for your prompt reply—it means a lot.
I kept experimenting with drivers and it looks like updating some older GPU drivers might have resolved the problem temporarily. It seems a recent Windows 11 update could be interfering with the new GPU drivers, causing the graphical issues. I found several unsupported comments on Reddit about Radeon GPUs experiencing problems after a recent Windows update, so it’s probably the cause, but I’ll still run some tests to confirm it’s fixed now.
Reducing the GPU drivers and enabling my second monitor in the settings resolved the issue permanently, along with adjusting its resolution to match the main displays.
