Hi everyone, I frequently switch between apps and use shortcuts like the alt key or Windows key to change options. My computer becomes very slow and stops working properly. For instance, when I play Fortnite and open Chrome with the alt key, the frame rate drops to just 1 fps. The same happens with Edge and Steam Shop. I’ve tried closing Edge and Steam, but the mouse still hovers at a low speed. This only occurs with certain applications, which makes it unusual. It’s happening on Windows 10. After updating to Windows 11, the problem gets worse in Edge. Even when using Chrome or Brave, the lag is more noticeable. I reinstalled Fortnite and got the same issue, and after downgrading back to Windows 10, it still doesn’t work. Additionally, when I open Steam Shop and try certain videos, they also freeze. I don’t see a black screen, but I’m unsure what else I can do to figure out the cause before doing a full system reset. Thanks.

You have two options: run in a borderless, windowed setting or invest more resources into the system. Your decision is yours.

Thanks for the update. Your setup looks solid: B550 Aorus Elite v2, Ryzen 5 5600X, RX 6750, 32GB Crucial Ballistix, Crucial P5 Plus 1TB. You're using the borderless windowed mode and it's delivering great performance.

Turn off hardware acceleration in the browsers you employ. Ensure the board runs the newest BIOS and install the most recent chipset drivers straight from AMD.

Thanks for the update. In Fortnite I’m unable to turn off hardware acceleration. I’ve made sure my BIOS and drivers are up to date. For now, I plan to perform a fresh Windows 10 installation.

Fortnite operates as an application, not a web browser.

Really? I wasn't aware of that, thank you! However, seriously: did you understand what the post discusses? Using alt-tabs in apps or games such as Fortnite or the Windows version can really stress my computer.

When using a browser with hardware acceleration, switching tabs—especially while watching videos—can trigger the GPU to handle decoding, sometimes leading to stuttering. But since you're a regular Fortnite player, I can get away with this. No extra help required; my time is better spent elsewhere.

Focus solely on that single example, and you're clearly not a thoughtful person. On the other hand, if this means you won't engage with my subject anymore, then please invest your time in reading "How to be a complete piece of sh#t." Your approval and understanding mean a lot. Good luck with your efforts to assist others.

I created this account just to express my gratitude for keeping me sane. My build is decent, but lag occurs when the game is running and the browser is open. After a week of troubleshooting, everything fell back in place in just 5 seconds once I read this. Sincerely, not a Fortnite player.
