Some problems with my home network.
You're facing some network challenges, and you're determined to fix it. Your current plan from Telstra offers speeds around 20/50/100Mbps, but the downloads are often slower than expected. You've tried rebooting the router, changing DNS settings, moving it closer to your device, and using a different PC with an ASUS card. The issue seems to be on the uplink side, possibly due to Telstra's recent changes.
Considering these steps, you might want to:
a) Invest in a separate dedicated modem and router from a trusted brand like TP-Link or Netgear. This could improve stability and performance.
b) Explore other ISPs for better service, as Telstra's recent policy changes may impact speeds.
c) If you decide to proceed, let me know so I can guide you further.
Time is limited—let’s find a solution quickly!
You reach out and ask, which feels odd without understanding the speeds involved. Three walls already noticeably reduce signal quality. As I mentioned, without knowing your speed plans, it’s impossible to tell if it’s sufficient. You should always verify your current plan before proceeding.
Reach out to your ISP with your account details—they can confirm your current plan and speed limits. If you're using a 100/10 connection, it falls within typical expectations. Your advertised speeds reflect your potential performance, not guaranteed results. Various elements influence this, including network conditions, hardware quality, interference, and the three obstacles between you and your access point.
This wouldn't be a bad approach, I think I should give it a shot. Check out my friend here: https://www.telstra.com.au/content/dam/t...-final.pdf. I've scanned every section, but nothing mentions overall upload and download speeds. Just noted they depend on certain factors.
Of course the rate changes, but without understanding the rates you're using, we can't determine the highest possible outcome!
I understand, thank you. It might make sense to bring it up. The 100D/10U speed seems normal, and boosting the dedicated router and modem speeds sounds reasonable. The external factors like infrastructure are worth mentioning too—my location is a small town, but I’m not too far away. My dish is aimed at what I think is the signal tower.
I didn’t have an ethernet cable available, as mentioned earlier. Moving the PC is limited to about a foot and a half at most, and there’s not enough space for anything else.
After browsing over 20 low-quality Telstra pages, it seems I’m using a fixed wireless connection. As mentioned earlier, the “best bundle ever” deal appears to be the $90 plan. I tried to figure out the upload speeds, but it was really tough for me. That’s all I could manage based on my limited search and the PDF you shared. The site is quite confusing, but if you can help clarify, I’d really appreciate it.
