Windows installer launches correctly, but only PC Settings appears in the event log. System error occurred when trying to access "C:\Windows\system32\SRU\SRU.chk": access denied due to system restrictions. This will cause file operations to fail with error -1032.

You mentioned you've rebooted the machine and attempted a system restore.

I experienced the same issue recently, which led to a complete reinstall of Windows.

Yes, you can restore Windows from the Windows 8 disk without reinstalling everything.

Use command /online/cleanupimage/restorehealth or sfc/scannow to repair the system.
