I have an I9 10900 without K, paired with a Gigabyte B460M HD, two 16GB 3000GHz RAM sticks, an RTX 2080 Super, and a 600W power supply. Over time I noticed the temperatures were really high, so I switched to a Z63 from NZXT. It's working fine at around 60-70°C max with the VRM at 80°C max. But recently a friend got an RTX 2070 and his setup with an I9 9900K managed +40fps compared to mine on The Forest. Looking at other people's tests, the FPS gap was often big. Probably it has something to do with my motherboard setup and power supply. I'm worried about buying something new and not fixing the issue. Sorry for the bad English!

Join the discussions here! Are you adjusting the power settings for your CPU in the BIOS? By default, most motherboards cap the 10900 at around 65W once the turbo timer runs out (typically after about 56 seconds).

10900, my VRM temperatures were stable, so I added inexpensive thermal pads to the exhaust fan vents at maximum speed. Now it stays near 80°C, before it hit 100°C and the system slowed down to 3.6.

If your VRMs are capable, attempt to push the power boundaries. They could be labeled PL1 and PL2 (Power Limit 1 and Power Limit 2) with a specific duration for PL2. Just input the maximum values supported by the motherboard. If the required power exceeds VRM or CPU thermal limits, consider adjusting voltage offsets to undervolt. This can help the CPU operate at higher voltages while reducing power consumption and thermal stress.

This board isn't suited for a 10900 well. It's unclear if the 40% performance drop is due to heavy CPU usage, which usually isn't a major issue, but it won't unlock even a fully unlocked i9. I wouldn't try to push power limits; lower the voltage and ensure good airflow around the VRMs. I might even think about selling it for something better. This setup feels poorly designed overall.

Updating the case just now. Owning a z590 Aorus Elite and a cx750f, the CPU is running smoothly with default BIOS settings. When I run CPU-Z, it shows a 6700 score compared to 4400 on the older board. I attempted to adjust the power limit, but no significant performance improvements beyond the 110W full load reading. Any advice for tweaking the BIOS?
