Giga x58a is functional but seems to require a BIOS refresh or desoldering of the chips (they appear misaligned). Shorting backup BIOS pins 1 and 6 resolves the issue, but it won’t boot Windows due to a 02 postcode error and checksum recovery attempts. It appears to be working with an x58 after replacement. Two E5645 chips are available for pairing. A motherboard + CPU combo would likely cost around $40, but the x58 is depreciated significantly. It should still support a Ryzen 5 1600, which offers solid performance. Many budget RX 4/570 graphics are available for about $50, and a used GTX 1660 is around $107.

I just watched a video about X79 and X58 Xeons not supporting AVX. It seems newer games are handling it better. A solid reason to keep an older PC around. The virus really messed up their performance, losing a lot of speed. An Xeon could handle it with 12 cores, but with an OC to 4.0 to 4.3, it’s possible. After an MB update, they got 24GB RAM. It's tough to locate specific lists, but there are many games... For 4th generation and newer, you usually need to look. Older titles often fit, and it seems the developers have updated them so they're playable now.

Other games that don't work without AVX? I think Apex Legends won't run unless you fix the old Spectre meltdown patches. Windows updates could possibly undo that change.

it's a dell hp mb model, they don't include an os but you can use thredstop. however, you'll need a w3670/w3680 since multiplayer is unlocked. if your name is brad board, a more affordable cpu will work and reach 4.0, though that's likely the platform's limit. alternatively, duel cpus are an option, but 24gb and 12 cores at 4.0-4.3 are the best you can get.

Gigabyte x58a update just needs a BIOS fix, possibly desoldering some parts. I’ll post a thread about it soon.
