I successfully sold my old i5-2500k, and now I've found three CPU options worth checking out. The I5-4690k offers an i7 with built-in motherboard but lacks a fan and costs around $100; it takes about an hour to pick one up. The i7-4790k provides a full setup for $100 as well, though the price isn't clear yet—arrival should be in roughly 25 minutes. The i5-4690k is a solid choice if you need a complete system at a budget-friendly price. Keep in mind I'm mainly focused on esports and want minimal lag, so I'll prioritize options that support smooth performance without any connectivity hiccups.
The 4690k setup seems to have poor components, and I wouldn’t rely on that power supply with just one LED. The 4790K looks a bit more solid but needs thorough cleaning, and I’m uncertain about the quality of its PSU. The Ryzen package would require RAM, a cooler, a PSU, storage, a case, and a GPU—all of which will quickly add up. Among the three, I’d pick the 4790K. If you later decide you need a better GPU, the RX 570 and RX 580 are extremely affordable new and even cheaper used, easily outperforming the 750ti.
I spoke with the 4790k person who shared that he wasn’t keen on selling it because of his current situation. He mentioned, “I’m trying to sell it as a full build. I really need the money. If I part it, I fear I may lose too much.” He asked about the price he expected—$350 or $400 plus extras like a keyboard, mouse, and headset.
