Some frames disappear when recording in a weird way
Hey, first time posting here. I've never had any trouble recording before. After resetting my PC recently, I started playing PS1 games again with an emulator and wanted to record stuff. When I launched OBS and my game, there was a bit of lag in the recording. Looking at the preview window, it showed some very occasional frame drops. No matter what settings I tried, there were always frame drops. It's not like me, because I have an RTX 3090 and i9 10900kf. I decided to switch software and used shadow play. Shockingly, the same lag was right there! Honestly, I've never seen anything like this before. Then I checked my OBS stats dock, and there were absolutely no frame drops. less than 0.3% CPU usage now. You might be saying "It could be the game or emulator!" So I switched both the game and emulator, and yep, there was still that same noticeable lag. For the frame drops, I took a few recordings of different games where it was pretty obvious to me. To some people it's not much of a deal, but to me it's really annoying, so I'm curious about what is going on. I linked two clips of gameplay and if you look closely, you'll see occasional frame drops that last for around half a second or so. View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRWo2cdKFQY (Noticeably after I start accelerating) View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJ43sghB5go (Noticeable after Crash picks up the missile) I've done lots of research on frame drops and stuff, nobody had an issue like this before. I really don't know what in the world is going on. I need some help.
It does not look like it is running slow. You might need to check for a slowdown by showing me what kind of emulator you are using.
Like me said before, it works with any emulator. I used ePSXe and DuckStation. Also, remember, these slowdowns don't happen in the games themselves, just when the video is shown. Here are my settings for both: check out this link to see them.
So I ran some more testing around. First, I took my emulator and put it next to a YouTube video playing the same game on the exact same map and gameplay settings. The frame lag only happened when actually running the emulator; the YouTube part was super smooth with no issues at all. EDIT: There are NO frame drops on the real emulator itself. It runs perfectly smooth. Only when I use OBS or ShadowPlay does that happen later. Then, I decided to try screen sharing on Discord. Since I have two monitors, I set up Discord on my second one and started a screenshare while keeping tabs open so the preview wouldn't disappear. To my surprise, the frames were dropping just like they were with OBS and ShadowPlay! Wow, that is crazy. I'm pretty sure this is something wrong with Windows because I can't think of any other reason why this would be happening.
