I have an HP Omen 15(2019) i5 9300h with GTX 1660 Ti setup. I've used this laptop for a year without issues, but recently it started overheating. After repasting with Arctic MX-4, everything worked fine until a week later when one CPU temperature reached 97-98°C. I tried several thermal pastes—Kyronaut, Zalman STC-8, and Arctic MX-4—but the problem persisted. The other cores stayed around 97-98°C as well. I sent it in for another repaste using HP's own paste, thinking the issue was resolved. Now, a week later one core still had thermal concerns. Can anyone assist?

It might be due to mounting pressure problems or an uneven heatsink, which could affect pressure consistency. Try shining a light on it to see if any dents appear.

The scratches might not be causing issues, but they could affect performance or appearance over time.

When reapplying thermal paste, it's crucial to allow it to "set." Ideally, wait a minimum of a week or two after applying fresh paste. Once finished, turn off the laptop and place it flat on your desk. Avoid patting it while it's still warm—do this daily for at least a week. I've consistently achieved the best results using this approach, and I work with laptops full-time. Edit: I can't ensure this works, but it's worth trying if you haven't already.

I power down my laptop each day when I'm not in use. It also rests on an angled cooler, which might be contributing to an issue.

It might be... when you remove the heatsink, is there any residue left behind? Apart from that, it could align with what XAcid mentioned.

It appears the heatsink is visible when I remove it.

I think the bigger and longer one is likely your CPU. The uneven amount of thermal paste on one side suggests the mounting pressure isn't even, which might slightly influence heat management.

It's using the GPU, while the smaller part handles the CPU. I'm not experiencing any problems with the GPU.

Well heck... The best I can say is keep it super clean using alcohol, wrap it in a microfiber cloth, and let it dry completely on a flat surface at the end of the day. As for the warranty, it’s uncertain—there could be an issue with the CPU.
