You can perform a clean install of W10 through the upgrade menu directly. Alternatively, you may need to install the upgrade first, create a boot disc, and boot from it before installing. Regarding your SSD, yes, you should wipe it before installing W10—your 840 EVO requires this process, especially since previous attempts with Magician failed. It’s not straightforward, unlike using DBan.

You’ll likely need a bootable media like USB or DVD for a clean install of W10. It seems Samsung might have a tool for wiping your SSD without using Windows, though I’m not sure if they’ve kept that updated. Using Magician won’t work if you’re already booted from the SSD.

It seems you're dealing with a problematic download. The app requires installation on a CD or USB drive, but the software itself is flawed and needs some hacks to function properly. You're considering whether to clear your SSD or if Windows 10 will handle the installation when booted from the CD.

I think this involves a series of steps, moving from Windows 7/8.1 to Windows 10. After upgrading, the system converts the key to version 10. You can use a tool to pull out the new key after the upgrade. Then download the Windows 10 ISO and perform a clean install using that key. The exact tool for extracting the key post-upgrade isn’t obvious—searching online should help you find one.

It seems to be near the location of the W7 keys. I haven’t located it yet. I’ll check again later.
