Earlier there was an issue with water exposure while the laptop was off. I removed the SSD and backed up its data to an external drive. After drying it properly, it started working correctly. Since then, several programs behave oddly—some don’t run unless admin rights are granted, others have restricted features. For instance, MobaXterm can’t open new sessions unless favorites are enabled, and KiCAD can’t locate custom libraries without admin access. Updating or reinstalling these programs hasn’t resolved the problem. I’m considering a full reformat and reinstall of Windows, but I’d prefer to avoid that if possible. Have others experienced similar symptoms and found solutions?

Basic. You moved data from one NTFS disk to another, and now you're starting fresh with Windows. Essentially, the file rights were preserved, but the SIDs aren<|pad|> can be found in the new setup. Installing programs should be done again, and any existing permissions need to be reset—ideally set to 'Everyone'.

I copied my boot disk to an external drive for backup, restored it to the laptop, and turned it back on. I suspect some config file moved or deleted during setup broke the permissions. It might not be worth digging into the problem if you’re not comfortable with SIDs or configurations. I’ve reinstalled a few programs, but results have been inconsistent—MobaXterm didn’t improve, and Chrome plus others had issues after the water incident until a fresh install.
