solving the issue with Xbox 360 controller on PC 2021
hello, i recall successfully connecting the ps3 controller and using an emulator to set it up as an xbox 360 controller. during the 360 era, windows games recognized it without further setup. is this still valid today? i wonder if new pc games now support an xbox 360 or should they use a newer controller like ps5? for reference, i’m a casual gamer who prefers the ps3 setup... p.s.: if it’s not possible, would a ps4 controller work for playing windows games without configuration?
The default controller layout remains consistent across most games. You can still utilize DS3Windows for PS3 controller Bluetooth or USB, DS4Windows for PS4 controller (offering better compatibility than native PS4) via Bluetooth or USB, a 360 controller with an attached USB plug, or a wireless 360 controller using an official Xbox 360 adapter. You can also use a 360 controller with a USB plug or a wireless version with an official Windows Xbox 360 adapter. For newer systems, options include Xbox One controllers with adapters or Bluetooth, Xbox Series S|X controllers with Bluetooth/USB, and PS5 controllers with Bluetooth or USB. I've tried all of these except for the PS5 on XP-10 and Linux.
DS4 is my top choice for PC, offering superior triggers compared to the DS3. You can also use the touchpad as a mouse for game menus or other tasks.
I came across a related article about Xbox controller emulators. It suggests using TocaEdit Xbox 360 and considers it one of the top options. I’m not sure if it’s truly effective, but I just purchased it and am currently testing it. Of course, I’m not certain if I’m fully utilizing all its capabilities. Someone might find it worth exploring🤷♀️
