Solving CS:GO Retrieving Server Info Length (Forever)
Solving CS:GO Retrieving Server Info Length (Forever)
Hi Guys,
I’m just starting out with this game and a bit puzzled about what to focus on fixing. Recently, I noticed the FPS cap seems to be higher than expected—I thought it was my system, but it looks like the game has its own limit that can be adjusted, which is fine for me at 400fps. However, now I’m facing issues with loading times: from the first round to the third and then the fourth, everything takes a long time. If I start a fresh search for a specific lobby or match, the loading is immediate and smooth. But once I reach the next round after finishing a casual game (like when one team wins eight matches), I end up in a new round right away, missing the first match of that round. This feels unusual because others seem to arrive earlier.
I suspect it might be related to connection problems—my ping stays around 5, rarely goes higher than 11, but it’s not consistent. I’ve tried restarting after quitting a round and returning to the lobby, but it still takes a long time. The GPU specs are solid (AMD RX 6800 XT, 5600x CPU, 16GB RAM), and the performance is decent (peak 50c, CPU 60c).
I think there might be a way to adjust settings or find a better configuration, but I’m not sure what to change. It’s frustrating because even flight simulator games load faster than this.
I tested my GPU in my friend's configuration - no problems. It shows about 5 seconds of lag when getting server info, which I don’t notice with my old GTX. That’s fine. The card is working perfectly. I think the problem comes from the combination of hardware... something is causing this issue on my system.
I don’t have a replacement MBR to test yet, but now it seems the added WIFI might be the main cause. This is the biggest difference between our two setups. I’m seriously thinking about buying another B550 MB without the WIFI (which I don’t need)...

I'm curious about when or if any solutions will become available for this problem.
I've nearly identical configuration as the original poster and have attempted every possible fix except changing my storage drive.
Still facing the same issues with the second, third, etc. map loads—especially during the "retrieving server information" screen.
Once I connect my old 1080TI without installing any drivers, the problem disappears.
I've tested all the startup hacks on Reddit and other forums, adjusted BIOS settings using the latest defaults from optimized defaults, tried with/without XMP, ResizeBAR, Above 4K decode, alternative power supplies, RX6700XT, NVME, and even fresh Windows installs.
I've also used only one M.2 drive, disabled Wi-Fi in Windows, and minimal or full driver installations.
My friend has a very similar setup but no issues at all, so we'll need to combine hardware fixes this weekend until we find a reason or solution.
I'll keep you updated.
Bruh thanks heaps!
It’s really frustrating to always miss the very first round of a match. It’s not like it’s always 100% – there are about 1-2 out of 5 times I manage just in time or during warm-up. But most of the time, I end up late or lose the match because I got bumped to another game due to one being full while I was already late.
I’ve done all the research and know for sure what’s likely happening – nobody online has really found a solution that works. I’m wondering if it’s related to AMD settings or some service issue that might slow things down.
About 99% of the problems I’ve seen online mention using an AMD GPU, usually something like a 6800-6900xt, and now you said you tried a 6700xt but still had the same issues. So what’s going on? 😂
I tried to figure out which settings might be slowing things down, but couldn’t find anything useful. I started thinking it could be connected to the service – maybe enabling or disabling certain features could help. Definitely 100% this must be about drivers, security/firewall, or some configuration setting.
In the end, the game ran really smoothly – I kept a constant FPS and shot to the maximum of 400. One thing that stood out was never getting a PING above 10ms. That made me think maybe that’s the issue? What if the next match gives me more than 10ms ping and my system just looks for another game because of this?
Days ago I was confused about whether the 400 FPS was the limit, but now I know there’s a workaround for that. It’s pretty surprising since 400 is a lot.
Now that I’m writing this, I realized some players in my matches had ping rates over 20 or even 100ms, but I’ve never seen myself get into a match with more than 10ms ping. There are moments when I can only play with bots or in an empty lobby, which makes me think there might be a setting that allows me to bypass this restriction slightly.
So I tried my gpu in my friends setup - no issues. It has about 5 sec lag upon "retrieveing server info" which I do NOT see with my old GTX. But that it is acceptable. So the card is 100% fine.... it has awesome performance as expected. So I have concluded that this issue lies in the combination of hardware... something is throwing this malfunction at my system.
I dont have a replacement MB to check at this point, but the suspicion is now actually directed at the addition if onboard WIFI.... this is the main difference in the two setups I am testing the gpu in..... I am seriously considering just buying a second B550 MB - obvioulsy without the wifi (which I don't need)....
@Cookiezaddict
- I can see that You have WIFI as well - if You have the option to disable WIFI in BIOS, could You perhaps test this for me..... My BIOS does not allow me to disable the WIFI unless I disable the entire onboard networking - but I need the LAN of course.
Thanks
Hey there, thanks for reaching out.
I turned off the Wifi and Bluetooth controller in my BIOS, and I’m pretty sure if you have built-in WIFI AND BT support, you should too.
After playing for about 1-2 hours—including a couple of Sunday morning matches in Australia—I noticed everything is running smoothly and fast. I’m 99% confident this issue is resolved.
I still don’t get how it connects to game loading performance, but it seems to work now. 😂
Appreciate the help!
Great news - You're welcome.
It's good to know the fix helps someone. I sold my card and chose nVidia to bypass the issue instead of using at setup without onboard wifi, which would require changing my MB. I'm satisfied with my MB, so I went for components that won't cause this problem when combined.
I think if my BIOS had a way to turn off WIFI, I'd have kept the card. But that's not what happened.
