Hello there everyone,
I'm searching for a free software record screen for online teaching courses that doesn't affect performance or battery life much.
I've tried the Xbox Game Bar (it gives the best performance but has cursor issues when writing).
I need a better option for my low-end laptop with an Intel i5-7300U and HD 620 GPU.

Consider using OBS Studio. It’s a useful program for recording gameplay and other important content. It also supports screen overlays, such as in KB. Previously, I tried Bandicam with its free version, which limited videos to 10 minutes and added a watermark. A short comparison article is available here: https://filmora.wondershare.com/screen-r...dicam.html This should help you decide.

OBS and Bandicam cause my laptop to slow down with high CPU usage, while Xbox Game Bar uses less power and runs smoother.

I guessed it too, but I was really surprised by how smooth and high quality it is. I don’t know how it works!

You thought the system was slow with high CPU and memory usage, right?

No problem, my friend has a laptop with identical specifications to mine. He attempted to run OBS and experienced high CPU usage. Also, I didn't mention that I tried the portable version from portableapps.com, not sure if that's what made it run better.

Even with two identical hardware components, their performance can vary. From your friend's perspective, they might have excess software or malware consuming system resources. Unless both devices share the same file system and files (essentially identical operating environments), direct comparison isn't feasible. Additionally, he could have been running demanding tasks like games while testing OBS, which might affect results.

Could bloatware influence CPU consumption significantly? It seems to impact CPU usage only when active, remaining idle at 1-5% otherwise. He was evaluating it alongside the same teaching program, OpenBoard, that I used.
