I'm looking for a Windows password recovery tool. I'm downloading one now since I don't have a USB drive and need to reset my Windows 7 password. Have others tried this method? Are there other options that work well with burned media?
You could run Kali Linux from a USB drive and use Ophcrack on it. I tried this once on my laptop for testing and it functioned properly.
I wasn't sure how to take full advantage of Ophcrack's capabilities, but it tried to retrieve the password—though it didn't succeed for me. If my son had been more cooperative and followed instructions, using my computers and consoles as intended, things might have been different. Now I'm confused about what the current password is.
I'm attempting this now since I already burned it to media, and if it fails I'll try the alternative you suggested. The site is already set up and ready for use.
