Intel® Core™2 Extreme Processor QX9770 works with DDR2 or DDR3 memory, but it's unclear which board performs best. The technology is quite outdated.

Are you looking for the optimal setup from that time or are you thinking about purchasing? You won't likely find them at a discount. Intel Core2 Extreme QX9770 ASUS Rampage Extreme X48 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3, or 16GB (4x4GB) which isn't officially supported but may function. For a LGA775 retro build, consider using a Q9550/Q9650 and a P35 or P45 board instead.
