: Social network: Missing messages on Facebook PC
Hello,
I've noticed some unusual behavior from Facebook/Messenger lately, which is becoming increasingly bothersome. I think it started after Facebook began encrypting its messages. I completely understand this change, even though I still have some doubts about trusting the platform. Whenever I try to view my recent messages on my PC, most or all of them disappear. I depend on the Messenger app on my phone for consistent and reliable communication. For instance, a conversation I had today shows up on my laptop as something from May 30th. I recently forgot this issue because I used Messenger on my phone for work tasks. I uninstalled it today but still faced the same problem, so I reinstalled it. Now I receive some recent messages, though some are missing—possibly permanently, like those from a friend dated since May 30th.
Does anyone else encounter this issue? I’d appreciate your insights, as (1) I want to understand why this happens and (2) I’m keen to remove as many third-party apps as possible.
Have a great day!
I would not depend on Facebook for messages.
It's already difficult enough to open any notification from Facebook and end up at a random view or post.
Avoid getting overwhelmed by endless advertisements and unrelated content.
Occasionally I can't locate the specific notification I intended to check, read, or view.
Seek alternative methods to communicate directly with loved ones, colleagues, and professional contacts.
Your main goal is communication.
Many other services focus on displaying ads instead.
Consider rethinking your needs and making the required adjustments.
That's my perspective on the issue.
I strongly disagree with you. Many workplaces rely on Messenger for communication. Personally, I try to keep it to a minimum and mainly use emails (not Google/Outlook). However, certain jobs require me to accept these tools. I often speak up about privacy concerns, but not everyone is as aware or willing to prioritize it. To improve my experience, having Facebook messages function well on my PC would be very helpful, allowing me to stop using Messenger on my phone. Please let me know if my information is incomplete, but I think I can control much more of the data Meta collects from a Brave browser compared to an app.
