Hey there, I’m trying really hard to find a fix for my rig. Usually I handle things on my own, but this problem is really tough. My setup: CPU – AMD 3960X, RAM – 64GB, GPU – RTX 3090 Ti. I stream and play games on it, which is why I have the Threadripper. The issue is mainly with Elden Ring. When SMT is off in BIOS, I get steady 60 FPS. With SMT enabled, my FPS drops to around 30 in Elden Ring and other titles. I need SMT because streaming requires multithreading power, but not the GPU. I’ve tried assigning cores with Process Lasso, but it didn’t help. ChatGPT gave me some ideas, but nothing worked. Extra details: my CPU usage stays low at 10%, GPU around 30%, which doesn’t make sense. (Attached screenshot.) Anyone have a better solution? Thanks a lot! This is the first time I’m asking for help online—I’m stuck. Take care, The Ghost

What setup did you attempt for the games? SMT off means running all even or all odd threads, and the opposite side must remain unused otherwise it will affect performance. For instance, if you assigned threads 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 to games, anything on 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 should be blocked to preserve performance. Use the remaining cores for other tasks. I’m not sure if you can finely control allocation at that level. Your CPU also isn’t well-suited for gaming due to having three CCX cores, so any workload exceeding three cores will conflict with it. The only solution is switching to a newer system, though this might lessen the issue if you limit games to groups of three cores.

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll give it a shot during the process. Lasso works well—especially when SMT is off and I’m playing Elden Ring. It runs smoothly at 60fps with no lag or stuttering. It seems to work in some games but not all. Elden Ring matters to me because of my content, and I understand there are issues with it and multithreading... but I’m determined to try.

There is an option to turn off SMT, which normally configures everything automatically—but it isn't working.
