Smite gains more attention than DotA2 as SWC returns to the scene
http://www.newzoo.com/insights/december-...dethroned/ Okay... I'm going to fanboy it out as Smite is my favorite game right now and I'm so excited for it's success. I used to constantly suggest Smite to people noting it was the 3rd largest MOBA on the market, but now I can say it is the 2nd largest. In my opinion, one of the major reasons why it is seeing huge success is the fact that it combines MOBA and MMORPG play styles to create a unique combat experience with the same deep strategies and tactics that come with a MOBA. Personally, I came from a WoW-type MMORPG background, so trying Smite out wasn't too far from my control comforts. Soon, my friends and I spend a great number of enjoyable times together challenging our competition. While we are on the topic, the Smite World Championship (SWC) is going to start tomorrow (Friday, January the 9th) at 10:30am EST (9:30am CT). While the games on that day aren't expected to be the most competitive, as NA/EU teams are very experienced and CN/LA/CA teams are relativity new. It's going to kick off a tournament that is going to be hype upon hype as the best smite players in the world fight over $2.5M. So regardless of your stance on esports (Really love LoL, DotA, SC, CS or have never checked it out), this is going to be a really nice production to watch. Smite has an amazing art team that will really put on a show. I'm not going to miss it, except for the last few hours as I have to go to work. And you shouldn't miss it yourself. The games will be hosted online at Smite's official twitch channel . I'm sharing this because I'm very passionate about the game. If you don't care, I hope to not forcefully make you watch it. But this is somewhat a historical moment in Smite and esports history. Here is a new game that has jumped so quickly to a huge professional level (only two DotA tournaments have succeeded Smite's SWC prize pool). I hope you will take the time to share in my excitement.
I might take a look, just like I do when watching the League finals. I still believe the top three matches are LoL, Dota, and Smite, and I think they’ll stay that way in any order. Each has its own unique appeal for players, with distinct gameplay styles. As someone who loves Dota both playing and watching, seeing similar genres thrive is encouraging.
It's just a short-term effect once the competition ends, it will return to normal
Only two Dota events have reached the Smites prize pool, with the most recent one winning eight million.
I really like playing smite compared to other games, it feels more engaging. Glad to see it thriving!
I have a slight dislike for Smite in Tribes:Ascend because it overshadows the original game. From a business perspective, I get it, but that doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it! It looks like arena shooters are gaining popularity again, making Tribes more relevant now than it was two years ago. At least that’s the take.
It's clear that moving Dota 2 or League of Legends to consoles would be a significant hurdle, requiring a major reduction in quality. Despite the growing player base, it remains a niche sport compared to other esports with larger audiences and more tournaments.
