Hello! I face microstutters and freezes in nearly every game, no matter the graphics settings. For instance: The Stanley Parable, The Beginner's Guide, The invincible, GTA IV, and especially Fortnite (so many microstutters, but FPS remains okay). All these titles don’t require heavy hardware, and based on the performance in MSI Afterburner, my PC isn’t even close to being overloaded. These stutters mainly happen when switching scenes or changing dialogue lines. For example, in The Stanley Parable, I can play smoothly while moving around a room, but once I switch to another area and the narrator speaks a line, I get a single stutter. Then again at a new location, a fresh line appears and I experience another brief lag. An interesting observation is that if I hear the same dialogue again, the freeze might not happen, suggesting it only affects new lines. But after restarting my PC, the issue resurfaces every time I speak a line. Perhaps the dialog is cached and loads normally, yet direct game access causes delays? After rebooting Windows completely, the freezes disappear, but they reappear with another restart. It’s really frustrating and hard to solve. Could anyone suggest possible solutions? My system specs are: CPU i7 4960x, Motherboard Asus Rampage IV Extreme (bios updated for NVMe), RAM DDR3 HyperX Beast 2400MHz 4x8Gb (HX324C11T3K4/32), GPU MSI RTX 2060 Super Armor OC Cooler, DeepCool AK620 SSD (Windows), Samsung 970 Evo Plus 250Gb (via m.2 to PCIe adapter), SSD OCZ Revodrive 3 x2 240Gb (Games), Intel Sata SSD 480Gb HDD (Media files), Seagate 4Tb OS, Windows 10 Pro. What I’ve tried: - Clean reinstall of Windows and drivers - Reinstalling games - Updating video card drivers - Toggling overclocking - Testing different SSDs - Using another SSD for games - Checking with a single SSD - Trying another HDMI cable If you have any ideas on what to try next, let me know.
Attempted to move The Stanley Parable from SSD 2 to SSD 1 without issues, but faced persistent stuttering during Fortnite installation. The problem remains unresolved and makes gameplay difficult.
An old technique I discovered helped stop the stuttering I experienced before. There’s a short tutorial available using CMD, and restarting your PC might resolve the issue.
It wasn't found in the device manager. I attempted to activate it via BIOS, tried Fortnite with HPET fully off, but that didn't resolve the issue. Now it's turned on in BIOS and I used the command line to set useplatformclock to true in Windows, yet the stuttering persists.
That's some old hardware! So many low-level issues could be occurring that may be hard to detect. What isn't clear, is, is this a new issue that didn't used to occur? That M2 adapter sounds suspicious That OCZ drive, do you know if it has the latest firmware update? I have no idea if you can even find the latest firmware either because it's so old If you disable all audio devices completely in Device Manager, does that resolve the stuttering? Obviously, this is troubleshooting, not a fix I wrote a couple of guides that might be helpful
It began after I installed my system in a new case with an RTX 2060 Super about three months ago. The GPU was in another PC and functioned perfectly. It’s been using an M.2 adapter for roughly two years without any issues. I’m confident the driver is up to date, as I found it on a forum. Recently, errors appeared in Windows logs, and I attempted to disable audio outputs and check for game freezes, but nothing resolved the problem. I’ll try turning off all audio sources once I’m back at the PC. It seems the new dialog line might be introducing an audio source issue—I’ll investigate further. Thanks!
