I started my PC today for gaming and tried Crossout, Thief, State of decay 2, and Far Cry 5. They either froze on the black screen for over ten minutes or displayed a non-responsive message when I clicked. My system specs are i7-4790K, 32GB DDR3 1866Mhz, R9 290x 4gb, 250GB Samsung SSD (BOOT), and a 1TB Seagate 7200rpm HDD for games. Is this a hardware or software problem?

It seems like you're wondering if the games are running on your HDD or SSD. To assess their condition, consider using a S.M.A.R.T. tool such as CrystalDiskInfo.

All my games are currently on the HDD. I plan to test this program, as I recently acquired the HDD about two months ago.

As foolish as it may seem, based on my experience I can confirm a HDD will likely fail within its first half year or last around ten years.
The symptoms you mentioned match a bad sector problem with an HDD.
You might also consider installing one of these games onto your SSD to see if the issues disappear.
