you're experiencing inconsistent speeds depending on your setup. it seems the router's performance varies with distance and possibly signal quality. you mentioned changing channels but still getting limited speeds. your friends' 5g connection is much faster than what you're getting from the router. since you're paying for higher speeds, consider checking your router's settings or contacting your ISP to ensure you're getting the advertised speeds. upgrading your router or using a wired connection could also help improve performance.

Then install a cable. If I had been paying for that internet, I wouldn't have spent time on Wi-Fi.

the device is placed in a spot that can't be reached by anyone, or it's owned by another person.

I’d need to run the cable through my hallway and kitchen so it covers the entire floor. It wouldn’t be easy to hide it, and my nephew or cat could easily bump into it or damage it.

There isn't any cable wire in the space where the computer is located.

Setting up a cable connection outside the building or through the basement is a cost-effective and simple option. It’s often cheaper than purchasing a new router, and it can deliver better performance than relying on Wi-Fi alone. If your setup allows, running the line through the floor can improve stability and speed.

I just watched that video, but I can't do it now since I need to use a power strip. I can't plug it directly into the wall.
